At AIIMS, Dr. Habeeb was recognized for his analytical thinking and diagnostic precision. He was actively involved in clinical case discussions and research seminars, and his thesis on liver function abnormalities in systemic diseases was highly appreciated by faculty and peers alike.

Driven by a deepening interest in digestive and liver disorders, he went on to pursue a DM in Gastroenterology, also at AIIMS, which he completed in 1997. His super-specialty training was marked by hands-on experience in advanced endoscopic procedures and hepatobiliary interventions. He was awarded the Best Clinical Case Presentation during his residency and was selected to represent AIIMS at national gastroenterology forums.

To further his contribution to medical science, Dr. Habeeb pursued a PhD in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, which he completed in 2008. His doctoral research focused on stem cell therapy for liver cirrhosis, a pioneering area at the time. His work received national recognition and laid the foundation for the establishment of the Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics (CLRD) in Hyderabad.

His clinical journey began in 1997, following the completion of his DM in Gastroenterology from AIIMS, New Delhi. Early in his career, Dr. Habeeb focused on therapeutic endoscopy, mastering procedures such as Endoscopic Sclerotherapy, Variceal Banding, and Achalasia Pneumatic Dilatation. By 2000, he had introduced advanced techniques like Fundal Variceal Glue Injection and Endoscopic Cystogastrostomy into routine practice at Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre.

In the early 2000s, he expanded his expertise to diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP, performing complex procedures such as CBD and Pancreatic Stenting, Stone Extraction, and EUS-guided Pancreatic Pseudocyst Drainage. By 2005, he was among the few specialists in India performing EUS-guided Lymph Node Biopsies and Coeliac Plexus Blocks, significantly improving outcomes for patients with pancreatic and biliary diseases.

His interest in motility disorders led him to adopt Nanometry-based Esophageal and Ano-Rectal Manometry techniques by 2008, enhancing diagnostic precision for patients with functional GI disorders.

Parallel to his clinical practice, Dr. Habeeb pursued a PhD in Biotechnology, completed in 2008, focusing on stem cell therapy for liver cirrhosis. This research laid the foundation for his work in regenerative medicine, and in 2010, he co-founded the Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics (CLRD) in Hyderabad. The center became a hub for translational research, integrating molecular biology, stem cell science, and clinical hepatology.

Between 2010 and 2015, Dr. Habeeb led several groundbreaking studies on Ulcerative Colitis, Chronic Hepatitis B, and Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Liver Disease, earning Best Poster/Paper Presentation Awards at ISGCON in 2010, 2013, and 2014.
